I’m slowly moving this website to a new server. Testing various things and improving stuff here and there.
It’s nice that Go time podcast has resurrected as Fallthrough. I need to catch up.
Sad that Hacker Stations seems to be dead. Last update is from April 2024… I like blogs like this. Does anyone remember WhereWeDoWhatWeDo? Total old school. I remember going through all these cool photos / stories wishing that maybe someday I could buy myself a Mac. Beautiful times.
Long-awaited (by me!) v4.2.0 of Terminal Theme was released today. I’m super happy with all the fixes, suggestions and changes. The theme is used mainly by the programmers (AFAIK), so it was very important to get the code blocks right (finally). From the very beginning (2019), syntax highlighting was handled by PrismJS, but recently I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s too much JS and CSS to deal with. That’s why I’ve switched to Chroma. It’s Hugo’s default syntax highlighter so you get everything you need for free during the build time. No more JS, no more flashing code on page load. OK, maybe the “no more JS” part was a little lie. There is some. But it’s a 1st party one, and it’s just 32 LOC. The icing on the cake, I promise. You’re gonna like it!
Started Sid Meier’s Memoir.
I issued the first RC for Terminal Theme today. Let’s say it’s a more mature way to handle the releases. I used to just push things to master
and fix everything later. This time I want to try something different.
Working on Terminal Theme 4.2.0 which should fix the awful code highlighting… I’m removing PrimsJS in favor of built-in Hugo syntax highlighter — Chroma. It’s simpler, faster and easier to work with. Code blocks look more accurate than before. I’m happy with the results.
Youtube’s algorithm is a perfect example of why this kind of crap doesn’t work. Even worse, this pushes you away from using software built that way, because it prioritizes the last click over the actual interests.
Yesterday, Framework was streaming about its new hardware, which I forgot about. Obviously, I’m a fan of them, and YT (Google) should know this. Instead of YT recommending this video to me, it somehow decided that this is not what I’d looking for. I couldn’t find it anywhere in the discovery tab (or whatever it’s called). I had to find it manually via search… Because someone on Reddit mentioned about it.
I know this is a recommendations vs. subscriptions kind of thing. But recently I have a feeling that all these recommendation algorithms stopped working. Youtube, Spotify (OMG, don’t get me started) or Netflix (probably the worst one) — what has happened?
All those services fail in everything they should be designed for. And even from a business perspective, those services fail badly in making me addicted to their content. Like how? They don’t even try…
Diane, 11:30 a.m., February 24th. Entering the town of Twin Peaks, five miles south of the Canadian border, twelve miles west of the state line. I’ve never seen so many trees in my life. As W.C. Fields would say, I’d rather be here than Philadelphia.
Happy Twin Peaks day!
I had some time to beat today in Wroclaw, so I was just walking around and listening to the soundtrack of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. No particular thoughts in mind, I just let it all go, and with each track, the music started becoming more ominous and immersive. It was amazing and thrilling at the same time. I don’t have that feeling when I listen to this album at home. This made me realize that I should go out more to listen to ambient music. At home, it is too cozy to feel it.
Very, very sad news… RIP Viktor Antonov
